Benefits of Learning Lyra (Aerial Hoop)



Have you been wondering how does playing hoops can help us? What can it do to us, to our bodies and to our lives? Well, Aerial Hoop or some called it Lyra, Cerceau or Aerial Ring is an aerial art usually seen in circus. Circus men and women will play their hoops in heights with their breathtaking tricks! People will be shocked, amazed and entertained! Also, this could be your passion if you start to learn it and explore the art. But don’t you know that it is not just a mere dance? Here are some points to remember that Lyra is so useful:


Weight Management and metabolic rate

According to studies, a person who’s taking up Lyra class can increase their metabolic rate. It will allow a person to burn 300 to 400 calories per hour. This is a good exercise not only for increasing metabolic rate and control in fat loss but also for toning muscles. Frequent participation will show you improvements in your posture, toned muscles and weight control.


Muscle toning and strengthening 


The best weight to lift is your body weight. Lifting your own body weight can make your body proportion. This is what in Lyra was doing! While in a class, you’ll frequently lift yourself on the hoop performing with different tricks and poses. While doing this all, unnoticeably you’ll gain strength and toned your muscles. You won’t get bigger like Ms. Olympians but only just to tone and give your body and muscles proportions. 

Flexibility and balance


Balance is one of the important things in Lyra. At first, it is difficult to balance your weight with the hoop as the hoop is not steady and constantly shaky! This indicates imbalance on your body weight. This normally happens to newbies. Regular Lyra activities or attending class regularly can make these things improved. You will learn to control your weight and to maintain balance on hoops while performing your favorite tricks. Soon with proper guidance of your teacher you will climb on the hoops easily and perform tricks with ease! Honestly, it took me 3 weeks to master just this one trick!

Creativity and the art


I can say that this is one of the most creative Aerial Art. It can enhance your creativity! The beauty of this aerial art is you can create your own routine. Yes, there are standard tricks and poses that you can copy and practice on but the amazing thing is that you can improve and make your own trick from what you have copied! Or create an original routine, and name it after your own name! You see? There’s no limit to it, the only limitation is your creativity and imagination. Show your own creativity and art – express it!
